Now have you ever felt your have suffered from workplace stress in your career? I remember feeling so stressed years ago and I was in my office with the door closed. I remember feeling panic and I couldn’t help it but the tears began to flow. I was sitting at my desk feeling so fed up and I was crying! I was the boss and I was crying, and it wasn’t any more stressful than any other day but I felt I had just enough of my job and that was it. That was the day I decided to change my life and walk away from that job. I was fortunate as I had only myself and my dogs to think about. I had enough money in the bank to last me so I decided to resign and that it what I did.
What made me realise this was my increase of alcohol. To let you understand when I would come home from work, I would get changed, greet my beautiful dogs and I would head for the fridge and I would pour myself a large glass of wine. Them I would feed the dogs and I would decide which takeaway I was going to have delivered. That was my life then and I was SICK of it!!
When you suffer from workplace stress it can come in all sorts of ways. Staff can over eat; drink more alcohol, use drugs and increase smoking to cope with the stress. For me it was increasing my alcohol consumption and eating far too many takeaways! I recognised this so many months into the job. I thought I will cut back on the alcohol on Monday…….but then the next Monday would come and the next and the next! When the weekend arrived I would feel relieved however I always had work to do as there wasn’t enough hours in a week. I was working approximately 60-70 hours a week. I would just try and relax, walk my dogs and see the odd friend. Sometimes it was good however as long as the conversation wasn’t about work. And then before you know it, it’s Monday and I would be on a flight to London!
Workplace Stress Is Your Worst Enemy. One Way To Defeat It cont….
Stuart Ross, one of the co-founders of the Six Figure Mentors and Digital Experts Academy had something on common with me as too suffered from workplace stress and he suffered panic attacks. In a previous job he was in real estate and worked 70 hours a week. He would get on day off in a month. Now panic attacks can be brought on by continual feelings of stress and in extreme cases they suffer a panic attack. Some feel faint, some tremble, others feel dizziness and other can feel pounding, with a fast heartbeat. Whatever the symptoms are ask yourself the question, “are you happy at what you are doing? Are you happy with feeling anxiety, drinking more and feeling so stressed that you think it is the norm. I tell you now it is not the norm and you don’t deserve to live that way, the way millions have settled for. Don’t you deserve to be happy and healthy?
So when I left my job I decided that I didn’t want to be employed anymore and marching to the beat of that drum. I searched online and I took my time until I found something and someone I could trust. Then I got in touch with Stuart and as they say the rest is history.
